ABOUT WATSON & THORNTON

The ‘olde worlde’ town of Shrewsbury – home of the fictional Brother Cadfael, birthplace of Charles Darwin and recognised by many as being ‘England’s finest Tudor town’- is host to many well established and traditionally based businesses. High on that list is our family run retail shop, Watson & Thornton.

Started after the second world war by Bill Thornton, the present owners father, trading on Wellington market, the business grew steadily over the years, enveloping Shrewsbury, Ellesmere Port, Crewe, Runcorn, Oswestry, Congleton and others. The business was taken over by the present owners in 1968.

Now trading solely from our Shrewsbury store, specialising in Bridal, Fashion and Craft fabrics. We also have clearance lines and inexpensive fancy dress materials, although our preference is for quality medium to better end fabrics.

Add to this, a huge range of haberdashery and accessories; plus, with everything administered by friendly, knowledgeable staff, a visit to Watson & Thornton is destined to become a rewarding pleasure.
